| Nunatsuak: Stories of the Big
Land, Labrador and Newfoundland
By: Cyril Goodyear
A Newfoundland Ranger, who must maintain the peace and survive
loneliness and isolation in a northern climate, brings the reader to a
vast land with a rich culture and demanding topography. In these
personal stories he recounts the challenges of northern living including
driving a team of dogs hundreds of miles to Goose Bay, being stranded in
a raging blizzard where all hope seems lost, and facing near starvation
in the ruggedness of Newfoundland's interior.
Although his career as a Ranger in Labrador and Newfoundland was but
a brief period of his life, Cyril Goodyear's love of the wilderness and
the people who lived in harmony with it shines through in these personal
memoirs.
